The Lansing State Journal published today that state officials have confirmed that the source of leeching oil outside Dansville, MI is an abandoned pipeline that was sold off by Consumer's Energy more than 10 years ago.
State Rep. Tom Cochran, D-Mason, whose district includes the oil spill site, said he was in touch with Department of Environmental Quality officials on Thursday.
“It’s unfortunate," he said. "I think here’s a lot more of these lines out there than we care to know."
Looks like companies do indeed lose track of old lines they leave behind!
